Anthony Grech Dolores Herrera: The Lady of Fatima shrine, at the San Damiano Retreat Center in Danville CA, was donated to the church by Anthony Grech (casino owner) in memory of his son Alfred Grech who was in the Air Force and died in England. Research: At the time of my cousin Alfreds passing from a ruptured appendix I was 15 years old. I only remember my family discussing the shrine in Alfreds memory. MY uncle Tony (Anthony Grech) was a floor manager and owner of several casinos. I don't know how he found the designer/builder of the shrine. All i know is that it was at the St Paul of the Shipwreck church for many years. I came across the shrine at San Damiano when I attended a retreat there over 20 years ago. I didn't know it was relocated there. I told the priest that it was my cousin's and I was so happy to see it there.
Apparently, my cousin Larry knew it was there. Alfreds mother was not maltese and he had 2 sisters and 2 brothers who have passed. My brother and I are the only living immediate family members of Alfred Grech that remember the shrine. I wish I could contribute additional information. The Shrine is in a beautiful setting - nicely done. Thanks to those that contributed.
