The ship was still waiting in queue to release its passengers, when the Great San Francisco Earthquake happened on April 18th. They finally released the men onboard, 3 days later, to assist in looking for earthquake victims and to help put out fires. His bride to be Carmela, came by ship, escorted by her father, about 10 years later. After they were married Carmela's father returned to Malta. Charles lived his entire life in the USA in San Francisco, California.
