Obituary: on 22 September 2011: Paul Luke Vella Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on September 21, 2011 at the age of 96. Paul was a native of Mosta, Malta who served his country loyally during WWII as a Sergeant in the Royal Malta Artillery manning anti-aircraft guns. Following his brothers, he immigrated to San Francisco in 1950 and was joined shortly thereafter by his wife and children. Paul worked 27 years at Schlage Lock Company in Visitation Valley. Paul was a 60-year member of the Maltese-American Social Club and in his retirement spent many Sundays there conversing with friends while sipping his favorite V.O. and water. Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Theresa. Devoted brother of the late Sam, Jane, Charlie, Maria, Peter, and Rose. He is survived by his devoted children Philomena Schembri (John), Joseph, and Carmen Orton (Thomas), his loving niece Filomena Scerri, his grandchildren Adrian, Lisa, Sharon, Marina, and Julie, as well as great-grandchildren William, Patrick, and Sienna.
